Great Blue Lobelia

Spikes of intense blue Great Blue Lobelia flowers, a native perennial that tolerates wet soil.

True Blue for Late Summer

Great Blue Lobelia (Lobelia siphilitica) is the cool-colored cousin of the red Cardinal Flower. In late summer, it sends up sturdy spikes covered in vibrant, violet-blue tubular flowers. It is a magnet for bumblebees, who are strong enough to push their way into the blossoms to get the nectar.

Why You Need It:

  • Rare Color: True blue is a hard color to find in late-season perennials.
  • Rain Garden Star: Loves moisture and thrives in heavy clay soils.
  • Long Blooming: Provides color for weeks in August and September.

Planting Tips:

Prefers Part Shade to Sun and Moist Soil. It is an excellent choice for a damp corner or along a stream bank. It is generally deer-resistant.
