Sedum 'Autumn Joy'

The flower heads of a Sedum 'Autumn Joy', a drought-tolerant plant with fall and winter interest.

The Reliable Star of Fall

Sedum 'Autumn Joy' lives up to its name. This succulent-like perennial looks good all season. In summer, it has fleshy, broccoli-like green flower heads. In late summer, they turn pink, then deepen to rusty-red in autumn, and finally dry to a rich chocolate-brown for winter. It is bulletproof.

Why You Need It:

  • Four-Season Interest: Attractive from spring emergence through winter snow.
  • Pollinator Magnet: In fall, the flowers are often covered in bees and butterflies.
  • Drought Tolerant: Its fleshy leaves store water, making it unfazed by dry spells.

Planting Tips:

Thrives in Full Sun. It loves poor, sandy, or rocky soil. If grown in shade or rich soil, it may get floppy. Leave the dried flower heads standing for winter interest.
