Clematis

The large, spectacular purple flowers of a Clematis vine, excellent for growing on a trellis.

The Queen of the Vines

Clematis is the gold standard for vertical gardening. These climbing vines are prized for their spectacular, often dinner-plate-sized flowers that cover the plant in summer. Available in shades of purple, pink, red, and white, they are perfect for training up a mailbox post, trellis, or lamp post to add height and color.

Why You Need It:

  • Vertical Color: Uses vertical space, perfect for small gardens.
  • Huge Blooms: Some varieties have flowers 6-8 inches across!
  • Long Lived: A happy Clematis can live for 50+ years.

Planting Tips:

Clematis prefer "Heads in the Sun, Feet in the Shade." This means the vine loves Full Sun, but the roots prefer to be cool. Plant it with a layer of mulch or a small shrub at its base to shade the root zone.
