Arrowwood Viburnum

The creamy white flowers of an Arrowwood Viburnum, a tough and adaptable native shrub.

A Native Shrub for All Seasons

Arrowwood Viburnum (Viburnum dentatum) is a workhorse native shrub that brings beauty to the garden in every season. Spring features creamy white flower clusters; summer offers glossy, dark green foliage; autumn brings blue-black berries and red fall color. Historically, Native Americans used its straight stems to make arrow shafts.

Why You Need It:

  • Bird Buffet: The dark blue berries are a high-energy food source for migrating birds.
  • Hedge Material: Its dense, upright habit makes it excellent for informal screening.
  • Adaptable: Thrives in sun or part shade and tolerates wet soils easily.

Planting Tips:

Plant in Full Sun to Part Shade. For the best berry production, it is helpful to plant more than one genetically different shrub to encourage cross-pollination.
