Daylily
The Indestructible Perennial
The Daylily (Hemerocallis) is often called the "perfect perennial" for a reason. It survives drought, flooding, salt, poor soil, and neglect, yet still produces beautiful trumpet-shaped flowers in the heat of summer. While each individual flower lasts only one day, a single plant produces dozens of buds, ensuring weeks of color.
Why You Need It:
Toughness: You almost have to try to kill a Daylily.
Erosion Control: Their thick, tuberous roots are excellent for holding soil on banks.
Variety: Available in thousands of colors, from yellow to purple to red.
Planting Tips:
Thrives in Full Sun to Part Sun. They are perfect for difficult spots like along driveways or on steep slopes. Divide the clumps every 3-4 years to keep them blooming vigorously.
