Salzman Services is a hardscape contractor based in Niles, Michigan. We build paver patios, pool decks, retaining walls, walkways, and fire features across Michiana, both sides of the state line, and owner Luke Salzman is on every job.
The ground here is hard on all of it. Lakeshore sand shifts. Indiana clay holds water and heaves when it freezes. Everything gets a real winter. So most of our work happens below the surface, on a foundation you'll never see, which is exactly why it's the part we care about most.

Every paver quote looks the same on paper.
The difference is buried: how deep the dig goes, what separates the base from the soil, whether the stone underneath drains, and what holds the edges ten winters from now. When a quote comes in low, that's usually where it got short.

Three things we won't do.

Lay pavers on sand, or on less than 6 inches of base. Our standard is 8 inches of compacted stone over fabric.

Use a base that traps water. Open-graded stone only, so water drains through instead of freezing under your patio.

Restore a surface whose base has failed. If the foundation is gone, we rebuild it, or we pass on the job.
What happens when you reach out.
1. You send the form. Takes about two minutes.
2. Luke calls you back within a business day.
3. On-site visit that week. Usually a Friday; evenings work too.
4. Written quote the following week. Scope and price, in writing.
5. A scheduling deposit books your slot. Once we start, we're on your job until it's finished, weather willing.
There's no sales team anywhere in that process. You deal with the person who builds it.

The Warranty
We don't ask for trust on reputation alone. Every install carries a two-year workmanship warranty, in writing: if something we built fails because of our work, we come back and fix it.
The Commitment
We're based in Niles, not a regional chain dispatching crews from three states over. Luke's been doing this work since he was 16, he's on every job site, and when you have a question six months after the install, you reach the person who built it.
Serving Homeowners Across Michiana
We work out of Niles, Michigan and cover a 30-mile radius on both sides of the state line. On the Michigan side: New Buffalo, Union Pier, Bridgman and Sawyer, St. Joseph, Benton Harbor, Buchanan, and Niles itself. On the Indiana side: Granger, South Bend, Mishawaka, and Elkhart. If you're in Michiana and don't see your town, ask. The answer is usually yes.
A note on timing
We're typically booked out several months, and the install season runs until the weather shuts us down, usually sometime in December. If you're picturing a patio for next summer, the conversation should start this season, not next spring. Planning ahead also locks your quote before material prices move again, and they haven't moved down in a while.
