Drought Tolerant, Deer Resistant, Rabbit Resistant, Showy Foliage

The Most Touchable Plant in the Garden

Lamb's Ear (Stachys byzantina) is named perfectly: its thick, silver-gray leaves are covered in soft fuzz that feels exactly like a lamb's ear. Children (and adults!) can't resist touching it. It forms a dense, low-growing mat of silver foliage that provides excellent contrast to green plants.

Why You Need It:

  • Sensory Garden: A must-have for a children's garden or sensory path.
  • Drought Tolerant: The fuzzy leaves help it retain moisture in hot, dry spots.
  • Deer Proof: Deer hate the fuzzy texture and leave it completely alone.

Planting Tips:

Requires Full Sun and well-drained soil. It hates humidity and wet leaves, so water at the base. The variety 'Big Ears' is popular because it has larger leaves and rarely flowers, keeping the clump neater.
