Lavender
The Scent of Provence
Lavender is a legend for a reason. Its silvery-green foliage and spikes of purple flowers provide a Mediterranean look and a soothing, spa-like fragrance. It attracts bees by the hundreds while repelling mosquitoes and deer. It loves hot, baking sun and dry, sandy soil.
Why You Need It:
- Aromatherapy: Dry the buds for sachets, tea, or baking.
- Drought Proof: Once established, it almost never needs watering.
- Deer Resistant: The strong oils make it unpalatable to pests.
Planting Tips:
Plant in Full Sun with excellent drainage. Crucial: If you have clay soil, amend it with gravel or plant in a raised bed. Wet feet in winter will kill Lavender faster than cold.
