Panicle Hydrangea
The Sun-Loving Hydrangea
Panicle Hydrangeas (Hydrangea paniculata) are the easiest hydrangeas to grow. Unlike their finicky blue cousins, these thrive in full, baking sun and bloom reliably every single year on new wood. They produce massive, cone-shaped white flowers that often fade to shades of pink or red as fall approaches.
Why You Need It:
- Reliable Blooms: Cold winters won't kill the flower buds.
- Long Season: Flowers remain beautiful from July through October.
- Size Options: Available in sizes from 3-foot dwarfs ('Bobo') to 8-foot giants ('Limelight').
Planting Tips:
Thrives in Full Sun to Part Sun. They are very drought-tolerant once established. Prune them back by about one-third in late winter to encourage strong stems and big flowers.
