Catmint
The "Plant It and Forget It" Perennial
Catmint (Nepeta) is the low-maintenance gardener's dream. It produces mounds of fragrant, gray-green foliage topped with spikes of lavender-blue flowers that bloom for months. When the wind blows, it looks like a sea of purple waves. It is tough, hardy, and completely ignored by deer.
Why You Need It:
- Long Blooming: Blooms from early summer all the way into fall.
- Deer & Rabbit Proof: The minty scent repels herbivores.
- Rose Companion: The classic partner for roses, hiding their "knobby knees."
Planting Tips:
Thrives in Full Sun and well-drained soil. If it starts to look floppy in mid-summer, shear it back by half, and it will flush out with fresh leaves and a second round of blooms.
