Eastern White Pine
Michigan's Majestic State Tree
The Eastern White Pine (Pinus strobus) is the gentle giant of the evergreen world. Unlike stiff, prickly spruces, it has long, soft, blue-green needles that are feathery to the touch and sway gracefully in the wind. Fast-growing and long-lived, it can eventually reach heights of over 80 feet, providing a majestic canopy and year-round green.
Why You Need It:
Fast Growth: Adds height and privacy to a landscape faster than most other pines.
Soft Texture: The fine, billowing needles create a calming, cloud-like effect.
Wildlife Haven: Owls and hawks love to nest in its strong, horizontal branches.
Planting Tips:
Plant in Full Sun to Part Shade. It prefers well-drained, slightly acidic soil. Give it room to spread—it is not a tree for a tiny courtyard!
