Beebalm
The Pollinator Magnet
True to its name, Beebalm (Monarda) attracts bees, butterflies, and hummingbirds like few other plants can. This native perennial features unique, shaggy flower heads that look like fireworks exploding atop square stems. The aromatic foliage smells like bergamot (Earl Grey tea) and is resistant to deer browsing.
Why You Need It:
- Hummingbird Favorite: The tubular flowers are perfectly shaped for hummingbird beaks.
- Long Blooming: Provides color for weeks in mid-to-late summer.
- Deer Resistant: The minty scent deters pests.
Planting Tips:
Plant in Full Sun to Part Sun. Beebalm likes good air circulation to prevent powdery mildew (a dusty white coating on leaves), so space plants out well.
